Loyalists During the American Revolution
Americans today think of the War for Independence as a revolution, but in important respects it was also a civil war. American Loyalists, or “Tories” as their opponents called them, opposed the Revolution, and many took up arms against the rebels. Estimates of the number of Loyalists range as high as 500,000, or 20 percent of the white population of the colonies.
What motivated the Loyalists? Most educated Americans, whether Loyalist or Revolutionary, accepted John Locke’s theory of natural rights and limited government. Thus, the Loyalists, like the rebels, criticized such British actions as the Stamp Act and the Coercive Acts. Loyalists wanted to pursue peaceful forms of protest because they believed that violence would give rise to mob rule or tyranny. They also believed that independence would mean the loss of economic benefits derived from membership in the British mercantile system.
Loyalists came from all walks of life. The majority were small farmers, artisans and shopkeepers. Not surprisingly, most British officials remained loyal to the Crown. Wealthy merchants tended to remain loyal, as did Anglican ministers, especially in Puritan New England. Loyalists also included some blacks (to whom the British promised freedom), Indians, indentured servants and some German immigrants, who supported the Crown mainly because George III was of German origin.
The number of Loyalists in each colony varied. Recent estimates suggest that half the population of New York was Loyalist; it had an aristocratic culture and was occupied throughout the Revolution by the British. In the Carolinas, back-country farmers were Loyalist, whereas the Tidewater planters tended to support the Revolution.
During the Revolution, most Loyalists suffered little from their views. However, a minority, about 19,000 Loyalists, armed and supplied by the British, fought in the conflict.
The Paris Peace Treaty required Congress to restore property confiscated from Loyalists. The heirs of William Penn in Pennsylvania, for example, and those of George Calvert in Maryland received generous settlements. In the Carolinas, where enmity between rebels and Loyalists was especially strong, few of the latter regained their property. In New York and the Carolinas, the confiscations from Loyalists resulted in something of a social revolution as large estates were parceled out to yeoman farmers.
About 100,000 Loyalists left the country, including William Franklin, the son of Benjamin, and John Singleton Copley, the greatest American painter of the period. Most settled in Canada. Some eventually returned, although several state governments excluded the Loyalists from holding public office. In the decades after the Revolution, Americans preferred to forget about the Loyalists. Apart from Copley, the Loyalists became non persons in American history.
Life Long Loyalists with their Secret Ultra-White Societies have largely been overlooked. But maybe it’s time to start uncovering their darkest Secrets.
Elite and secret societies have always been a major force in the history of Western civilization. The alliances formed in secret societies such as the Knights Templar, the Knights of Christ, and the Freemasons transcended patriotism and religious beliefs and had a powerful influence on the establishment of the United States of America. While these secret associations of merchants, smugglers, occultists, gamblers, spies, and slavers succeeded in freeing the United States from foreign domination, the dark side is that the elite used their secret connections to further their own wealth and power. These secret cells did not hesitate to sponsor the assassination of a president and even attempted to break up the union on several occasions when it was deemed expedient.
From the Sons of Liberty and the Essex Junto to the Ku Klux Klan, secret societies have played critical roles in building the fortunes of America’s elite. Now Steven Sora reveals in alarming detail how secretive societies continue to wield power even today as organizations such as Yale’s Skull & Bones unite America’s modern ruling families as strongly as Masonic Lodges once connected the Astors, Livingstons, and Roosevelts. Their immense power and wealth allow this elite to control America to an even greater degree than the Templars once dominated Europe.
By their very name, secret societies inspire curiosity, fascination and distrust. When the Washington Post broke the story last month that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia spent his final hours in the company of members of a secret society for elite hunters, people instantly wanted to know more about the group.
The fraternity in question, International Order of St. Hubertus, was incorporated by Count Anton von Sporck in 1695 and was originally intended to gather “the greatest noble hunters of the 17th Century, particularly in Bohemia, Austria and countries of the Austro Hungarian Empire, ruled by the Habsburgs,” according to its official website. After the organization denied membership to Nazis, notably military leader Hermann Goering, Hitler dissolved it, but the order reemerged after World War II, and an American chapter was founded in the late 1960s.
These societies were the incubators of democracy, modern science, and ecumenical religion. They elected their own leaders and drew up constitutions to govern their operations. It wasn’t an accident that Voltaire, George Washington, and Ben Franklin were all active members. And just like today’s networked radicals, much of their power was wrapped up in their ability to stay anonymous and keep their communications secret. Oath Keepers and Proud Boys.
Cardinal James Gibbons took a more definitive stand on secret orders, saying that they had “no excuse for existence.”
In the United States in the late-19th century, there was enough of a national uproar against secret societies that one concerned group created an annual “Anti-Secret Society Convention.” In 1869, at the national convention in Chicago, the attendees went after the “secular press.” Secret Handshakes, Blood Oaths, and slaughtered Livestock or Bloodied Chickens. In one super Secret Society of Billionaires, the New Recruit is given a Chicken and must ring it’s Neck. He then throws the Bird down on the ground. If the Dead Bird jumps up and Runs, then that person is forbidden Membership believing that the Dead Bird had been overtaken by the Soul of a Dead Slave back to Haunt them all. And they still do this Today.
Obviously, secret societies would lose their reason for existence if secrecy were ever entirely abandoned. Many fraternal organizations, for example, maintained the secrecy of their rituals into the 21st century, although, as in the case of college fraternities and sororities, these survived largely as formalities. Other academic societies—most notably, Yale University’s Skull and Bones and similar groups at other Ivy League schools—have traditionally guarded their secrets much more closely. In most instances, the core of the binding secrecy is to be found in the society’s ceremonies. The essential part of this is rarely if ever legitimately known to those who are not initiates, particularly where the really significant ends are concerned. In order to ensure full and exact knowledge of these ends on the part of initiates, a group’s rituals tend to emphasize painstakingly accurate repetition and close guardianship. They are often designed to provide a strong emotional appeal, impressing the members with the gravity of the ceremonial occasion and the authenticity of the knowledge thereby revealed. In many secret societies, the ceremony is cast in dramatic form and contains episodes taken from holy books, revered legends, and episodes thought to be of crucial historical importance.
And naively, Americans are joining and actively Recruiting for The Loyalists regardless of what their Ultimate Goals are of the Group. And giving you more Rights ain’t Happening. Taking more and more of the Individuals Rights away is the Byproduct where Men Rule and women are viewed correlated to weak and lesser beings. No wonder Roe vs WADE was overturned but more Rights Stripping Revelations are Coming. And which side of the coin are you going to be partaking in all of this? I.Q. of an individual does make a difference. Just as the Level of Schooling does too. The Names of Subscribers of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER were given to certain individuals who then went after these individuals for their Donations. And it worked! Can you send $19 a month? And they are!
If Americans don’t take a real stance to keep Our Country true to the Course, then others will steal her from you and you’ll never get her back…
