In 1863, Mississippi farmer Newt Knight serves as a medic for the Confederate Army. Opposed to slavery, Knight would rather help the wounded than fight the Union. After his nephew dies in battle, Newt returns home to Jones County to safeguard his family but is soon branded an outlaw deserter. Forced to flee, he finds refuge with a group of runaway slaves hiding out in the swamps. Forging an alliance with the slaves and other farmers, Knight leads a rebellion that would forever change history.

Folks, I give this movie every bit a 100 out of a possible 100 points. A 5-Star Rating! I am not a Movie Rater but I am a writer and I know when I see good script and good story-line come together and I know great acting when I see it. And friends, let me tell you, this one was just gosh darn good. You will not be disappointed by superb acting my Mathew once again and all the ones in it. The acting by all the actors and actresses was excellent, was superb, and the subject matter is so very current today as it was when this true story took place. I salute all of you for a job well done! God Bless each of you in your life’s endeavors.
And it is once again available on Netflix and if you don’t have Netflix-GET IT! I highly recommend it.
Bringing history to the screen is not an easy task and I saw nothing but true masterful workmanship in making this very important tale of social awareness come to life for all the viewers to see for themselves. And if you want to investigate the true story, then here it is from the Smithsonian-
